LMC set to tackle poor officiating

Referees to get the big stick

By Tasie Theodore

Nigeria’s League Management Council, LMC is set to tackle the recurring spate of poor officiating in the Nigerian Premier Football League, NPFL, it has revealed.

In a series of tweets on its twitter handle, League Management NG, the body revealed on Friday that the matches under consideration were five Week 14 fixtures involving Heartland vs Nasarawa United, Lobi Stars vs Rivers United, Go Round vs Rangers International, Yobe Desert Stars vs Enyimba International & FC Ifeanyiubah vs Plateau United.

It tweeted:

‘League Management NG

‏Some match officials involved in 5 fixtures of #NPFL18 Matchday 14 have been recommended for suspension from further officiating of matches pending full investigation into their performances

The last batch of officials recommended for suspension are the referees in the Yobe Stars vs Enyimba International match. The referees are Dankano A. Mohammed (Kogi), Mohammed Surakat and Toyin Sunday, both from Kwara State council #NPFL18.’

The performance & conduct of the listed referees recommended for suspension were well below the high standard expected in #NPFL18 including questionable decisions & failure to submit match reports on time.’

Nigerian teams have for a long time now continued to under-perform at the continental level, with many commentators suggesting that the poor management of the local league was half of the problem.
