Suspected Cultists kill Benson Idahosa Varsity student

The only child of a former general manager of Edo Broadcasting Service, Mrs Sidi-Lawal Igioh is reported to have been shot dead by suspected cultists in Benin City, the Edo state capital.

 

The victim, Mr. Ighio Tobi according to another version on the killing is said to have been hit by a stray bullet being fired by hoodlums who fired gunshots while robbing the neighborhood last Sunday as another version has it that the victim was the target of cultists.

 

The mother of the deceased who is still in shock over the death of her son is said to have battled for a long time to get pregnant before her wishes for a child came through.

 

Sources close to the Ighios however said that the late son who is also heir apparent to the home is the only source of joy to her but wondered why wicked ones have decided to put her in pains at an age when she can no longer give birth.

 

Other persons injured in the sporadic shooting are said to be receiving treatments at an undisclosed hospital.

 

Contacted, Edo Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Moses Nkombe said he was yet to get full details of the killing, promising to get back to this reporter after getting the report from the Divisional Police officer in Ugbor division.

 

An official of the institution who asked not to be mentioned confirmed that the killing was cult related. He however said no other student of the institution was injured in the attack but refused to speak further whether the killing happened within the campus or not.
