Editorial: The Difference Newspaper
As a newspaper, we have found the need to explain why we are celebrating Africa Day in Nigeria most expedient at this time.
We plan the event to be a colloquium on the new Africa Union passport which is guaranteeing visa-free travel to Africans all across Africa. Along the line also, we will equally be celebrating leading West African businesses in a segment we have dubbed the ‘Business Kings of the West Coast.’ And then there will be the presentation of ‘Africa Day,’ a journal addressing issues of pan-African significance and the anniversary edition of The Difference which is being produced for the celebration.
The event holds at the Nigerian Institute for International Affairs, NIIA on Thursday, May 25, 2017. It is a pan-African annual that is also celebrated across large parts of Africa, Europe and North America.
We are still working the details. Last year was our first time organising the event publicly in Nigeria, and it was thanks to The Difference. Incidentally, other nations have been marking it on the continent and beyond for decades. So in undertaking this challenge, we are helping to restore Nigeria’s place as a leading pan-African player. As stated, The Difference Newspaper is the principal organiser. We will disclose sponsors and supporters as they sign in. Suffice it to reveal at this point that for last year’s event, one of our principal collaborators was the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs.
In terms of organisational details, we already have two confirmed speakers and are working on others. Perhaps we should leave their names out now but one of them is the head of the largest passport office in Africa while the second is a Head of History and International Affairs Studies in a leading Nigerian university.
We are really expecting a great event. Join us.
