2023 Governors Class: Eyes on Abia’s Alex Otti

By Tasie Theodore

As the 2023 Governors Class get set to take their oath of office come May 29, many eyes are presently looking in the direction of Abia’s Alex Otti as one new governor that is expected to make some quite noticeable impact in the lives of the people, The Difference reports.

Somewhat akin to the reception that had greeted Seyi Makinde of Oyo State when he upset the bookmakers permutations to emerge as Governor in 2019, Otti, who is coming to the saddle on his third attempt is similarly being seen as a system outsider that is expected to bring in new dynamism into governance.

A first class graduate and former CEO of Diamond Bank, Otti is particularly coming to the saddle with very impressive private sector credentials. Already he has promised quick wins in the area of restructuring the state’s finances, cutting off waste, plugging points of leakage and prioritising the welfare of public sector workers and pensioners that continue to be owed humongous tons of arrears.

He has also pledged to leverage on his enormous reach into and influence within the Nigerian and global business and corporate circuits and already a delegation from the South Africa-originating telecommunications player, MTN has already visited him to hold preliminary talks.
