Popular and award winning Nollywood legend, Pete Edochie clocked 70 today, March 7th 2017

Edochie has been considered as one of Africa’s talented actors by both movie awards and career history. He is a seasoned administrator and broadcaster who came into prominence in the 1980s where he played the lead role of Okonkwo in an NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s best selling novel, ‘ Things Fall Apart’.

Before venturing into TV and film productions, the Nollywood star had begun with radio broadcasting in 1967 at the age of 20 and worked as a junior programme assistant after which he was elevated to the level of a director.

On the negative side, Edochie suffered a ban in 2005 that was slammed on him by the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, alongside other stars like Richard Mofe-Damijo, aka RMD, Genevieve, Omotola, Stella Damasus and Nkem Owoh. This was on account of their reportedly collecting huge fees from producers due to their high rank celebrity status but without meeting their own side of the bargain most conscientiously

Equally distressing was the kidnapping of the award winning actor at Nkpor on August 16, 2009, while he was on his way to take part in an event in Anambra State. He was however to be released on August 17, 2009.

Edochie is married with children among who are Yul Edochie and Linc Edochie, both Nollywood actors.

To mark the day, Yul Edochie, celebrated his father on Instagram and Twitter where he wrote: ” Happy 70th birthday to my father, Chief Pete Edochie. I thank God for your life and I pray you see many more great years. God be with you Dad! ”
