Apprehension as insurgents attack governor again
By John Eche
There is apprehension over the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria following a second attack by suspected insurgents on the convoy of the Governor of Borno State in Nigeria’s volatile North East region, Professor Babagana Zulum.
The governor, who had been the victim of a similar attack several weeks back was saved by the whiskers but not without the attack claiming the lives of dozens of security personnel and aides who were travelling with him.
Boko Haram, the Islamic State in West Africa are reported to be quiet visible in the North East corridor that has been the target of sustained insurgent activity in the past decade.
The Muhammadu Buhari administration had set for itself the improvement of national security as a principal campaign and governance agenda but many Nigerians say that this is one promise that has not been fulfilled.
