Falcons get dollar boost to win

By Nsikan Ikpe

Ahead of Saturday’s African Women’s Cup of Nations, AWCON2018 finals clash, the Super Falcons of Nigeria and the Bayana Bayana of South Africa are presently locked in a fight-to-finish.

To qualify for the finals, the Super Eagles of Nigeria had edged out Cameroon while South Africa had trounced Mali.

The South Africans had earlier beaten the Nigerians 1-0 in the group stage of the fiercely contested tournament that has equally seen the humiliation of hosts, Ghana.

Apart from their earlier win over the Nigerian side, one more incentive that the South Africans would be hoping to cash in on is the need to avenge the draw game played by the South African male national team, the Bafana Bafana in their very crucial 2019 AFCON qualifiers encounter that saw the Nigerians rising to the top of their group at South Africa’s expense.

The Super Falcons have presently been promised a bonus of $10,000 dollars each by the Nigerian Football Federation if they win the match.

Cameroon, which beat Mali in the third place match played on Friday, picked the third African slot for the subsequent Women’s World Cup tournament.

The match is expected to kick-off at about 5.00pm Nigerian time.
