Crisis-soaked nation prepares to live with ‘life presidency’ project
By Tajudeen Hamzat
Ahead of a critical October 7 electoral contest, Cameroon’s octogenarian President, Paul Biya has left the country for an undisclosed location.
He will however be accompanied on the trip, which presidency officials are describing as a ‘brief stay abroad’ by his wife Chantal Biya.
The Head of State’s private visits are always a mystery and it is not clear when he will return to Cameroon but it is certain he will be back on time before campaigns for the Presidential election kick off.
Paul Biya who is seeking re-election for a seventh term is opposed to eight other candidates though a petition has been filed at the Constitutional Council for his candidacy to be annulled.
