The Southern African nation of Botswana is set to host to host the 49th session of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Africa Region Conference.

The event which is billed for the Gaborone International Convention Centre takes place from 13th – 22nd August, 2018.

One of the leading political and economic lights in the continent, the nation which is bordered by Namibia, Zimbabwe and South Africa has never suffered a military coup even as its economy has almost always remained a world beater since securing Independence in 1966. It is currently growing at 4.5 per cent.

Underscoring its performance on this critical turf, Botswana had a GDP per capita of $18, 100 in 2017 compared with countries like the West African giant, Nigeria, which had a GDP per capita of $2,177 (2016); and Southern African regional economic and political leader, South Africa which had a showing of 6,268.98 USD as at December 2017.

The session is expected to be addressed by Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi, the 57-year old actor and school teacher who succeeded the mercurial Seretse Ian Khama earlier in the year.
