Concern is brewing across Nigeria over the rising spate of trucks and related heavy duty vehicles falling on the highways or dropping their containers and cargo on innocent bystanders and commuters, leading in almost all the recorded instances to the loss of lives and property as well as attendant gridlock and man-hours loss.

The latedst inciden occurred this Friday morning at Brass Junction along the Aba/Owerri Expressway in Abia State when a truck fell across the road, resulting in a heavy traffic gridlock for commuters entering or exiting the Aba metropolis.

Earlier in the week several incidents had been recorded in the Surulere and Ketu areas of Lagos while another was experienced on Thursday afternoon at Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

Analysts trace the incident to the poor quality of the trucks and the non-enforcement of existing traffic rules by the authorities.
