Fake mad man nabbed in Lagos

By Tajudeen Hamzat

A man who claimed to be insane has been nabbed in Lagos. The fake mad man who had been seen dressed in rags and acting like someone insane was nabbed by passersby after he was spotted with at least 5 cutlasses in Ibiye, Badagry Lagos.

The incident which occurred on January 14 resulted in the alleged madman being beaten up by some residents.

It also took the timely intervention of a passersby to alert a police officer who brought calm to the scene as he seized the cutlasses found on the suspect and ordered a search to be conducted on him and which resulted in several clothes being found in the unnamed suspect’s bags.

The equally unidentified police officer then proceeded to question the suspect who gave coherent and accurate answers to the questions put before him but however could not satisfactorily explain what he was doing with the cutlasses and knife that was part of his pack.

The police man wanted to then formally arrest the suspect but no one within the crowd was willing to follow him to the police station to make an official statement on the incident. The suspect was therefore cautioned and released, but not after he was beaten some more by some within the crowd and ordered to not return to the vicinity.

The Difference correspondent who was at the scene spoke with an eyewitness, Hakeem Adams who lamented ‘the increasing numbers of madmen in the vicinity who perpetrate evil acts’ while also urging residents to be watchful and vigilant at a time ‘when men and women claim to be insane but many of them are mere pretenders.’
