CITY’S GAIN, LEICESTER’S LOSS
By Tasie Theodore
‘Everything comes to who knows how to wait @ManCity.’ That is how English Premiership star and former African Footballer of the Year, Riyad Mahrez personally responded on twitter Tuesday night to news of his finally signing up to play for Manchester City.
Mahrez, formerly of Leicester FC had tried repeatedly to dump the club through which he had shot into prime reckoning in 2016 but his many tries had failed to yield the desired dividends until now.
Born in France, the astute midfielder and winger, who is originally of Algerian descent. and had been a principal part of the Algerian team at the 2014 World Cup, scored 48 goals in 179 appearances for Leicester FC.
Mahrez was sold to Machester City for 60 million pounds and would now don the No. 26 shirt even as his entry is expected to help sustain Manchester City’s impressive showing in the 2017/2018 season.
Manchester City, under Coach Pep Guardiola is under immense pressure to sustain its 2017/2018 winning streak in the premiership where it had very comfortably carted home the most prized trophy, finishing 10 points above second placed Arsenal FC.
