Fresh trouble for Emefiele over political involvement

By John Eche

Fresh trouble is stirring for Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele on account of his recent association with politics in the country as a civil society organisation is threatening to file a suit challenging his eligibility to continue to remain in office.

In a tweet, the group said it would be approaching the courts to rule on the subject:

‘Leadership & Accountability Initiative

, Mr. Godwin Emefiele

and the Federal Government on the eligibility of Mr. Emefiele to continue as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria having registered as a member of a Political Party.’

Emefiele had been named as a potential presidential candidate in the ongoing primaries process of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC with an expression of interest form having been purchased on his behalf. However, he had not followed through with the process and was therefore not one of the contenders recently screened by the party ahead of the scheduled primaries exercise.
