Bonnke, German evangelist who loved Africa goes home

German evangelist who loved Africa goes home

Hours after the lid was put on the 2019 edition of what is arguably the continent’s biggest gospel music concert, The Experience, on Saturday, the death has been announced of Reinhard Bonnke, a popular German evangelist who loved Africa so much and invested enormously in soul-winning on the continent.

The Experience is convened by The House on the Rock Church, Lekki, Lagos, along with several partner ministries, and has held annually at The Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos. This year’s session, which is the 14th in the series saw thousands of worshipers congregated at the venue and star acts included Chioma Jesus, Don Moen, Sinach, Travis Greene and Tope Alabi.

According to a statement from the Bonnke family, the 77-year old, who made many missionary trips to Africa, died while being surrounded by family members.

Though the news of the death has sent many in Christendom and the continent into a ‘mourning’ mode, sources say it was not totally unexpected.

This is on account of the fact that Bonnke had not only talked of it himself ahead of the event, he had also paid a much publicised ‘farewell mission’ to his beloved Africa months ago and formally handed over the reins of his Christ for All Nations, CFAN ministry to his associate, Daniel Kolenda.

That farewell visit which included a stop at the House on the Rock Church in Lekki, Lagos was indeed a most emotional encounter, recalls a reporter from the stables of The Difference who had covered the event.
