I have not defected, Minister cries out

‘Report alleging I defected grossly untrue’

By Akpo OmetanM

The Nigerian Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri Ph.D has debunked an online news report, which claimed that, “Lokpobiri Leads 3000 Defectors to PDP in Bayelsa, as Dickson Rides in a Convoy of Cars to Ekeremor after 40 Years.”

In a statement issued in Abuja, his aide, George Oji affirmed that the Minister  dissociates himself from the alleged report and assured that he remains a very strong and committed member of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

It is important to state, Oji said, that the Lokpobiri referenced in the story does not have any direct link with the Honourable minister and is not a member of APC and as such could also not have been the Ward Chairman of the party as the authors of the report laboured to portray. Of a truth, the undisputed Ward Chairman of the party in Ekeremor is Mr. Columbus Japan, who remains a very committed and unrepentant member of our party.

The Minister recognises that this is political period and that politicians are targets of malicious reports by mischievous elements, who are bound to take advantage of any undue opportunity that presents itself to rubbish political opponents. This, according to him, can only explain the desperation, with which the authors of the news report laboured to drag his name into the story.

For the avoidance of doubt, the minister also restates that the Ekeremor community and indeed the entire Bayelsa State remains very stronghold of APC and nothing has happened in the recent times to change this position.

It is the position of the minister that notwithstanding the activities of some of the misguided politicians in the state, the people of Bayelsa State are committed and looking forward to delivering the state to President Muhammadu Buhari come February 16.

Meanwhile, the APC members and teaming supporters in Bayelsa are already in very high spirit and looking forward to hosting the Presidential campaign team of President Muhammadu Buhari in the State next month, to demonstrate their support and loyalty to the party, which will ultimately result in overwhelming electoral victory for the party.
