The New Acting Vice Chancellor, VC of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Prof Anthony Elujoba has revealed that all that was on his mind before the new twist of events was the fact that he was meant to start his sabbatical.
Elujoba who was very popularly elected as Acting VC under instructions to the University Senate by the Visitor, President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, was scheduled to be at University of Ibadan from next month to commence a one-year sabbatical term.
He has also disclosed that he is set to meet with OAU Students at the University Amphi Theatre when the school resumes.
This was communicated during a Public address in front of the University Senate Building today.
The Professor from Pharmacy who is 68 years old ruled out the possibility of his later becoming the substantive Vice Chancellor of the institution but insists that he will ensure that he would be leaving behind a fitting legacy when the time comes for him to step down as Vice Chancellor.
He also promised the respective unions in the university, and notably NASU and SSANU that his tenure would see adequate attention being paid to their welfare which was a critical point that led to the closure of the institution, affirming most categorically that “this kind of problem will not occur in OAU again.”
Meanwhile, while normal administrative activities have now resumed on campus, feelers are that academic activities would not commence until August 7.
