Pollsters say outcome is yet too close to call
By Anthony Opara
It is a cliffhanger moment across East Africa, Africa and the world as everyone feverishly awaits the final outcome of the General Elections that are presently going on in East Africa’s flagship economy, Kenya.
While the contests would be producing winners for several parliamentary seats that are up for grabs, the real big tussle is clearly that between incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is angling for a second term in office and his long-time foe, the former Vice-president, Raila Odinga.
Incidentally, the fathers of both contenders had briefly shared power in the 1960 when President Jomo Kenyatta had picked Jaramogi Odinga Oginga as his Vice President.
Pollsters say the outcome of the current contest is still largely open even as there are concerns that there may be a resurgence of the violence that flared up, following disputes over the results of the 2007 polls, if the entire process is also not well managed this time around
