Killings: CAN adjusts programme, calls off nationwide protests

National Prayer session of Christian leaders to now close 3-day activity

By Nsikan Ikpe

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN has adjusted its planned programme of responses to the widespread killings of Nigerians across the country, which it has described as wilful and unwarranted.

A statement from CAN president, Bishop Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, and signed by his media aide outlined that in place of the planned nationwide protests to climax the three days of prayer and fasting it had already scheduled for July 9-11, the programme would now be rounded off with a joint prayer and fasting session of its leaders in Abuja.

“CAN is worried, disturbed and disappointed that despite all the clarion calls on President Muhammadu Buhari to re-organise his security team by replacing all the security chiefs, he has consistently not responded to such calls,” the initial statement from the association had read.
