Offending policeman also killed by mob to get posthumous trial, authorities say
By Nsikan Ikpe
Lagosians have expressed their outrage over the death this week of a Lagos State Traffic Monitoring Agency, LASTMA operative.
The victim, was reportedly shot by a Police Inspector attached to the Inspector General’s Special Federal Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS whose operational modalities have been the subject of intense public disapproval on social media and the public space for well over a year now.
Underscoring the extent of outrage over the unfortunate incident, a mob immediately descended on the offending policeman and beat him grievously. He was said to have been confirmed dead at the close of the day.
Under pressure, the police authorities have now ordered a posthumous trial of the FSARS operative even as the authorities plot further damage control measures to pacify the public.
President Muhammadu Buhari had only a few days ago approved an enhanced salary scheme for the police.
