Many die as security personnel shoot at protesters
By John Eche
Many people have died in Lekki, Lagos as security personnel shot at protesters who had been keeping vigil on the grounds of the facility that abuts the Lagos-Ajah Expressway.
Several others that were wounded in the skirmish are receiving treatment at several hospitals in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
The incident, which is part of the broader crisis that has engulfed the country in the past two weeks has attracted widespread shock and consternation.
It began when many young people in the country, who had been at the receiving end of rogue police action being perpetrated chiefly by personnel of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, took to the streets to protest and call for the scrapping of the outfit and the inauguration of wholesale police sector reforms.
The Lagos State Government has ordered an investigation into the incident.
Shocked to their marrow, many citizens have been expressing their outrage over the incident.

The reason a policeman in Nigeria will say: “I will waste you and nothing will happen or I will kill you and the President will do nothing is because when you do come to the President and report, the President will order soldiers to kill you

History will forever be unkind to President
@MBuhari
. Under his watch, at the Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos, Nigerian soldiers shot live bullets at young, unarmed, innocent protesters demanding an end to police brutality.
The history books will forever remember you for this!
