Comical reactions trail alleged statement
By Tajudeen Hamzat
Nigerians have broken into stitches on social media on account of a threat credited to Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, that the West African country would attack Israel should that nation not deport Independent People of Biafra, IPOB, leader, Nnamdi Kanu back to the nation urgently.
The alleged threat is coming in response to news of a re-appearance of Kanu in Israel after months of uncertainty over his whereabouts and that of his father, following a military assault on their home in Umuahia, Abia State.
The raid had come even while Kanu was enjoying a court-secured bail in his trial by the Federal Government of Nigeria on account of his alleged association with ‘Radio Biafra,’ and led to some controversy over whether it was his bail bond holder, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, or the Nigerian military that was now expected to ensure that he returns to continue his trial process.
Though discerning observers credit the anti-Israel threat as being one of those questionable news accounts that have now become commonplace in this season of political acrimony and campaigning, it has not stopped the internet from buzzing with jokes emanating from it as the samples below, which are taken from twitter, outline:
Nigeria threatens to attack Israel???? Lai Mohammed‘s mouth will put us in trouble one day.
@netanyahu ignore the stupid gaffe made by one Lai Mohammed. You see,we don’t take him seriously,he doesn’t even take himself serious,so you shouldn’t lose sleep over his threat. He is one of the mistakes we will correct in 4 months. Help us keep Kanu as long as you want.
Lai Mohammed wants to annoy Israel abi… They will just do 30 minutes (5 mins per Geopolitical Zone) Air Raid in Nigeria and the whole ‘We’re Fighting Corruption will be over… Even the corrupts and the fighters will all meet their maker at once…
