NNPCL: Confusion over Mele Kyari’s status
By John Eche
There is palpable confusion over the status of the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, following news reports that he may have been eased off his perch by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.
While there has been no confirmation of the news, it had however been linked to the suspension and arrest of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr Godwin Emefiele.
Emefiele was arrested in Lagos and flown to Abuja, flanked by operatives of the Department of State Security, DSS.
In Kyari’s case however, part of the doubt is that the NNPCL, which had formerly been the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, had been restructured into an essentially private entity. It however continues to enjoy a lot of the leverage that it had as a public organisation.
NNPCL GMD, Mele Kyari
