Obaseki almost in, as INEC declares 17 results
By John Eche:
With the results of 17 of 18 of the local governments in the governorship polls conducted in Edo State, Nigeria on Saturday, feelers are that incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki may now be in a pole position to bag a second term in office.
The elections were held across Edo State on Saturday and saw the Peoples Democratic Candidate, Godwin Obaseki principally slugging it out against his main challenger from the rival All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Osaze Ize Iyamu.
The final local government from which results are presently being awaited is the Ovia South West Local Government Area.
Political watchers say that should the trend already underway be sustained, the political future of political players like Mr Osaze Ize-Iyamu, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu may presently be quite troubled.
Indeed, given the ebullient positions he took in trying to stop Obaseki at all costs, Oshiomhole may come across as the single biggest loser in the short term. This is more so when it is also in the course of his fighting Obaseki that the former labour leader and two-term governor also lost his plum position as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Mr. Adams Oshiomhole
