Through a series of tweets on her handle, @obyezeks, former Minister of Education and leader of the BringBackOurGirls group, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili has lampooned House Speaker, Yakubu Dogara and Nigeria’s House of Representatives for going ahead with the plan to purchase 360 ‘luxury’ cars for members of the house, despite the reality of the current recession and widespread public disapproval.

‘All our lawmakers at @nassnigeria currently dwelling in a Parallel Universe– a place of Alternate Reality shall surely come down to earth.’

‘Recently, I heard of a jobless widower with 4 children who borrowed N1000 to feed his family. Today, I read of @nassnigeria N3.6B CARS. #SAD’

‘Our lawmakers @nassnigeria are Prebendalists. They feel they have a right to a share of government revenues. It explains N115B Budget &CARS’

‘The “culture of entitlement” suggests that our @nassnigeria have highly unreasonable expectations about what they are entitled to#NASSCars’

‘If someone has a sense of entitlement, that means the person believes he deserves certain privileges — and he’s arrogant about it. #NASSCars’

‘@bukolasaraki @SpeakerDogara What you two & your 467 colleagues are doing @nassnigeria is SO LUXURIOUS that we can’t hear you on Recession’

‘@bukolasaraki @SpeakerDogara @nassnigeria @NGRSenate @HouseNGR The Ghanians say: “If no one advises you, advise yourself”. #WisdomIsKey’

‘@obyezeks not Dei-Dei ,I think it’s Dass & Tafafawa Balewa. Some of d villages within his constituency are not motorable’

‘@obyezeks @MobilePunch @SpeakerDogara I am suprised they have an explanation for this, really! What happened to the one that alredy have?’

‘@obyezeks @nassnigeria @HouseNGR @NGRSenate Correct ma,most Legislatures are cutting cost in this recession’

‘Deputy Chair of Media @HouseNGR said “recession would not stop lawmakers from performing their legislative duties.” So they bought cars.’

‘Ask your aides to google what your contemporaries in other countries facing Recession are doing, @nassnigeria @HouseNGR & @NGRSenate’

‘No twisting. Was still framing my tweet & battery failed. They better know that Citizens are becoming irritable.’

‘Mark my word, @nassnigeria @HouseNGR and @NGRSenate . One day…&very soon..the Citizens will seek a ride in those your fancy cars too’

‘See why persistent vigilance &not episodic noise is the REAL citizens’ CHECKS & BALANCES? @nassnigeria bid their time&quietly procured cars.’

‘It’s not your fault. Sebi some of those you are supposed to SERVE will hail you back to Village once you arrive in the heartless cruise.’

‘Members of @nassnigeria did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage…the flood came..!Luke17v27 @SpeakerDogara’

Turning her attention to the jumbo pension plan for the immediate past Governor of Edo state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, she equally expressed her unvarnished disgust:

‘Btw, is that news I read about former Gov. Oshiomole’s pension package of N200m house, 100% of last annual salary + plenty others, TRUE?’

Is that so? Just when did this pattern of indefensible and embarrassing pension package for Governors, start? #SAD’

‘I cannot even begin to imagine that Adams Oshiomole would accept such embarrassingly unearned income for SERVING.’

She went on to insist that the ongoing recession in the country was indeed biting so hard that almost no one was presently unaffected.

‘I don’t know about you, but whatever modest Cash leaves home with me, never returns. Why? Many more people making demands on one. TOO BAD.’

‘The greatest Distortion stunting Nigeria’s Development… Rather than the Private Sector, it is in Public Service that riches may be made.’
