Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has said that the difference between the rich and the poor is information and enjoined youths in the country that since information is key to success, they should therefore develop a strong appetite for information.

He stated this when he addressed thousand of youths in the State at the first Imo Youth Annual lecture series and Award event with the theme “Building An Ideal Imo Youth.”

The programme which took place at the Imo Youth Centre, Owerri, the governor stated that information makes the difference between the rich and the poor, and also advised the youths to make friends with people that are higher up than them in life.

He said, “As the future of this great country and state, you must rise up to convert your potentials into action. Arouse your kinetic energy and see the results of what you can do or become in the nearest future.”

He added that: “to do this, the very key is information. There is no difference between the rich and the poor but information. Make friends with somebody you can answer Sir. Seek transfer of knowledge rather than seeking for money, for money can finish but knowledge is always there”.

According to him “You are created with something deposited right inside you and never fail nature that expected you to rise to fulfill your dreams. So you must not fail creation. Lack of vision brings poverty and the worst poverty is poverty of the mind. You must set lofty and achievable goals for yourselves”.

Okorocha further stated “Make yourselves available to other seminars such as this to acquire education and transfer of knowledge faster. This brings out the very best in you. Don’t make excuses in order to succeed. Take responsibility and admit it because you will only have yourselves to blame if you fail to develop your potentials. Take decisions – unshakable resolutions and work towards the results”.

He stated “Never let your background put your back on the ground. There are uncountable instances of people who made it from nothingness to somethingness of which I’m an impeccable example. You must look good and presentable anywhere, anytime. Remember you are addressed the way you dress. Package yourself very well”.

He further told the youth: “Learn to start small so that you can tell your story and stop all forms of gossip and back biting. Discover your talent, that which you find easy to do and follow it. It’s God’s will for you. A man who has started a journey and made a mistake is better than one that has not started at all”.

In his vote of thanks at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youths, Chief Kenneth Emelu said his office came up with the lecture series to ginger the youths into meaningful action and thanked the governor for personally coming to interact with the youths.
