One more Nigerian governor, Fayemi tests positive for COVID-19

By Nsikan Ikpe

One more Nigerian governor, Dr John Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state has tested positive for COVID-19, The Difference has learnt.

The governor of the South western state personally disclosed the information that he has indeed tested positive for Coronavirus.

In a message delivered to the nation through his twitter handle, the former Minister of Solid Minerals Development revealed:

“I took my third Covid-19 test yesterday and it came back positive,” Fayemi tweeted. “I’m generally ok and I’m already self isolating at home and receiving the best of care from my medical team.

“I’m delegating critical tasks to my Deputy but will continue routine duty from home.”

Fayemi is among several governors and other high profile Nigerians that have caught the Corona virus bug.

Others that have been similarly affected include Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi of Ondo, Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi.

It will also be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari’s former Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari had died out of complications arising from COVID-19 infection.

Millions of people have tested positive to the virus globally which is presently been handled by the World Health Organisation, WHO as a pandemic. Nigeria’s total count of infected cases has lately crossed the 30, 000 mark with about 500 or more cases being added on a daily basis.

The virus is widely believed to have originated from Wuhan in China.
