Aspirant protests plot to install favourite

Ahead of today’s governorship primaries to select a candidate to represent the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial contest in Osun State, uneasy calm is pervading the ranks of members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Already one of the 17 governorship aspirants who had indicated his desire to contest the primaries, Barrister Kunle Adegoke aka “K-Rad,” has raised the alarm over an alleged a conspiracy to ensure the emergence of one of his rivals, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola as the party’s candidate.
Accordingly Adegoke has vowed to fight the process which he described as “a game without rules.”
He is also warning that the current trend of affairs could be an “advance notice of imminent chaos.”
Speaking to correspondents at a press conference in Osogbo, the aspirant averred that the argument of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the APC on the use of direct primary even if sound, was dogged by constitutional, legal, political and moral challenges.
The challenges he said, had exposed the leadership of the party as being less law-abiding than expected.
“It is certain that INEC cannot mobilise at least 332 personnel to monitor the direct primary election in the 332 wards in the state,’ Adegoke stated.
He lamented that the outcome would clearly be non-democratic if as he alleged the elections were to be supervised by officials of government, who are already prominent campaigners of the state-anointed aspirant, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, noting that ‘military dictatorship cannot be less democratic as the determination of the present government in determining its successor is more than glaring,’
Continuing, he wondered why “less than 24 hours to the novel direct primary election, no guideline has been issued by the National Working Committee with the approval of the National Executive Committee to guide all aspirants and voters,’ concluding that ‘it is clear that there are no rules in the form of guidelines to even govern the election.”
He also alleged that the APC has no credible membership register, and no such register has been publicly displayed or shown to any of the 17 aspirants less than 24 hours to the primaries.
The APC had been declared winner of the governorship elections that was held in Ekiti State recently.
