INEC promises to act

There is concern over the alleged actions of security agencies in relation to the Osun governorship re-run holding in the South West State at the moment (Thursday).

A first hint of this was given by representatives of the media and observers covering the polls re-run exercise who complained of being harassed and denied space to carry out their functions.

Also, PDP Governorship candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke has also cried out about the alleged harassment of his supporters.

In its response to the outcry of the media and observers, the Independent National Election Commission promised to take up the matter.

“INEC is disturbed about reports that accredited media and observers are being arrested or prevented from operating in some polling units. This is being taken up with the security agencies.”

The rerun polls was ordered after the Returning Officer in last Saturday’s substantive polls contest had formally declared the outcome as ‘inconclusive.’

Either Ademola Adeleke of the PDP or Gboyega Oyetola is expected to be declared winner at the close of voting and counting today (Thursday).
