Outrage as Benue Governor, Ortom is attacked


Fresh outrage has engulfed the nation following news that Benue Governor, Samuel Ortom has once again been attacked by gunmen who are suspected to be linked to Fulani herdsmen who have long been at logerheads with the helmsman of the Middle Belt state on account of his anti-open grazing policies.


The incident which reportedly took place on Saturday occured when the governor was inspecting a farm in the suburbs of Makurdi, the state capital and it took return fire from Ortom’s security details and his running to safety to save the governor’s life.


The crisis of insecurity in Nigeria has continued to fester for some time now and Ortom is a second governor that has personally been at the receiving end. His Borno counterpart, Professor Babagana Zulum has also severally been targeted by Boko Haram insurgents.
