Outrage as Wike outlaws #SARSMustEnd protests
By John Eche
Outrage has greeted news of a notice from the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike that outlaws the #SARSMustEnd protests taking place in Port Harcourt presently.
While groups like Amnesty International are warning that the governor of the oil-rich state would be held responsible should any harm befall any protester today, others are accusing him of betraying his dictatorial tendencies and being ungrateful to citizens who braved all odds to help him get past a quite tempestuous challenge to his second term bid only a year ago.
‘Olúyẹmí Fásípè Flag of Nigeria
Only a Tyrant will try to stop citizens from exercising their rights, protest is a right. Gov Wike is infringing on the rights of the people of Rivers State. #EndPoliceBrutality #ReformPoliceNG’
Gov. Wike disappointed us by banning a peaceful protest in Port Harcourt today against police brutality in Rivers state I urge all the rugged and selina tested Rivers residents to come out and say no to police brutality. #StopPoliceBrutalityinNigeria’
In the battle, Nigerian Constitution vs. Gov. Wike, there can be only one winner.
S.40. Every person shall be entitled to assemble freely and associate with other persons…’
