Oyo: Immigration service registers 4,506 migrants
By Nsikan Ikpe
Some 4, 506 migrants have been registered by the Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Immigration service since the e-registration scheme commenced in August, The Difference has learnt.
Of the number less than 20 percent have valid documentation to stay and work in Nigeria.
This much was revealed by Saleh Abdullahi, the NIS Comptroller in the state.
The scheme, which is part of an amnesty window, is expected to terminate in January 2020 after which all non-registered migrants living and working in Nigeria face the threat of prosecution.
To tame the challenge of herdsmen and farmers clashes in the state, the Oyo State House of Assembly had in October passed the Oyo State Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Bill 2019.
