Political tempo, timing of broadcast raises issues as to its expected content

By Tasie Theodore

Ahead of a projected address to the nation by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday night, Nigerians are speculating over what its contents could be.

While there is general consensus that the broadcast is politics-related, there are however differences over the specific range of issues to be addressed.

While some say it may be a general statement of reassurance as to the willingness of the Buhari administration to conduct a ‘free, fair and credible polls,’ others aver it may go ahead to touch on issues of security, the concerns lately raised by foreign observers and nations and even the contentious issue of whether the elections may yet be postponed or not.

The broadcast is coming at a time when the tempo of political activities is indeed very high in the country. At the moment, candidates and representatives of parties are criss-crossing the length and breadth of Nigeria, in last minute efforts to canvass support from the voting public.

The broadcast is billed to be aired on Nigerian television stations at 7.00pm.
