Why I was silent on #EndSARS

Nigerian socialite, disc jockey and music producer, DJ Cuppy has reacted to what some had considered her unusual silence on the clamour by Nigerian youths for the disbandment of the Police anti-crime unit, FSARS that has been enmeshed in controversies over its alleged breach of standards of professional policing.

Taking to twitter, Friday morning, DJ Cuppy who is the daughter of Lagos buillionaire, Mr. Femi Otedola, explained that she refrained from making comments on the saga on account of advice from people close to her.

She however went on to note that though she had not directly been affected in the alleged acts of abuses, she was aware of it and would therefore not let it go without a comment.

Going against the advice of those around me, but it doesn’t feel right. Silence can say so much. My fellow Nigerians, forgive me for taking so long to comment…

I would lying if I said I’m DIRECTLY affected by SARS but a lot of my Cupcakes are and that’s enough for me to care. I stand behind the movement to #EndPoliceBrutality AND #EndSARS Flag of Nigeria’

Other Nigerian socialites like Folarin Falana, aka Falz, Tiwa Savage and Tacha have since publicly supported the #EndSARS campaign and even participated in public marches in favour of scrapping the security outfit.
