Sports Writers in Imo State have pleaded with the Rochas Okorocha administration to not give up on the Heartland Football Club despite its recent uninspiring run of play.

Accordingly, the pen-pushers organised under the aegis of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Imo State Council, have commended the Governor  Okorocha for assisting Heartland FC escape relegation in the just ended Premier League Season.

The commendation was contained in communiqué released at the end of its executive meeting at their Dan Anyiam Stadium office in Owerri.

The communiqué stated that the team was relegation bound before the Governor and Deputy Prince Eze Madumere took the bull by the horns to address the burning issues raised by the players.

It restated its implicit confidence on the management team led by Chief FAN Ndubuoke and enjoined them to commence the recruitment of players especially in the attacking Squad against next season which is just one month from now.

It also praised the players for heeding to the plea by concerned lmolites resulting in their honouring most of their away matches in spite of obvious challenges.

It observed that Heartland FC has young promising players which have to be joined by experienced players to produce results next season.

The Communiqué also pleaded with the Governor to see it as priority to accord a rousing reception to the players and their management team as an encouragement for their success.

The Communiqué which was signed by the chairman Mr. John Nwaofor and vice Chairman Mr. Ifeanyi Emesowum further pleaded with the government to ensure that Team Imo participates at the maiden edition of the National Youth Games in Abuja Kicking-off on the 5th of December, 2013.
