The ruling Saturday by the Taraba Elections Petition Tribunal nullifying the election of Governor Ishaku Darius has stirred controversy in the state and beyond.
While the camp of the APC candidate in the 2015 governorship polls, Hajia Aisha Alhassan, aka Mama Taraba and sundry gender activists are jubilating that Nigeria potentially now has her first elected female governor, that of the PDP is smarting that the allegation that it did not hold a valid primaries exercise is indeed contentious.
Also in dispute at the moment is the directive by the tribunal that Alhassan be sworn in as substantive governor. The question on the lips of commentators is whether this should be carried out immediately without prejudice to the ousted governor’s right of appeal.
The Taraba Elections Petition Tribunal had sat in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
