A truck crash which has been traced to mechanical failure by a truck as it attempted to make a detour around the Arepo turning on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has blocked the entire express way.
The truck is reported to have crashed in the early hours of the morning and this has made movement on particularly the outbound lanes of the the Lagos-Ibadan Express way to be very slow as commuters are barely managing to pass the now narrowed road.
Failure of motorist to co-operate and pass the narrow path in an orderly fashion has also escalated the traffic as motorist exchange words and pour out their aggression on each other.
As at 8am the traffic had extended all the way from Arepo to Wawa and was snaking its way down to the Fagbems petrol station bus stop. Motorists are cursing the lack of standby, operational towing vehicles on the expressway despite the overwhelming possibility that some of the nation’s badly maintained trucks would very likely crash or breakdown on the expressway.
Our sources further told us the traffic snarl might extend beyond Fagbems and possibly reach Berger if nothing is done by 9.00am latest.
On twitter, Gidi Traffic retweeted a note from Omoseyus’ handle: “The traffic on LONG BRIDGE, exiting Lagos, is caused by a trailer that fell across the road at AREPO.”
Outraged motorists are also venting their spleen on the Ogun state government who they believe has been very slack in traffic management and control.
