NGO conducts free medical screening for women living with disabilities

The EDWIIN Well-care 2018 Medical Fair event was indeed a day of joy. As the disabled women trooped into the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos venue of the event that day, they really would not have been fully abreast of what was in store for them.
It was upon their arrival that they got to see even more definitively, what had been laid up for them. And thanks to the dogged determination and passionate expression of care and concern by Uri Ngozichukwuka, founder of the Empathy Driven Women International Initiative, EDWIIN, along with her dynamic team of volunteers, partners and patrons, it surely ended up as indeed a day to remember.
Indeed, the 8th of March was a remarkabke day for participants across all sides of the divide and surely a day many lives were touched.
The turn-out of beneficiaries was absolutely impressive. In all, well over 130 women were offered free medical screening by a coterie of professional healthcare givers that had been signed on for the scheme.
For Uri Ngozichukwuka, the convener and brain behind EDWIIN, the task of catering to the needs of the disabled women is indeed such a labour of love.
A media and communications specialist who traverses the worlds of television and public relations, she had set up EDWIIN as a giving back initiative and looking back over the course of the past year, and most notably at the work that EDWIIN has accomplished within this time frame, she is indeed most encouraged.
‘It is such a motivating and inspiring project that drives people to want to make a difference and give them reason to continue to believe in themselves.
EdWIIN not only reaches out to differently able women but mentors individuals who want to give back to society and volunteer to serve humanity.’
In this wise, even the volunteer medical doctors and other specialist healthcare providers that participated in the Teslim Balogun Stadium event on March 8 acknowledged that they had themselves found the whole exercise truly fulfilling and refreshing.
Not just that, they also found things to be so well put together and excellently organized, thanks to the great work done by the team.
Indeed, even going beyond the direct organising team, special thanks for the success of the event would also go to the healthcare providers who put in so much to ensure such a remarkable outcome..
They include Lake Shore Cancer Centre, Optimal Cancer Foundation, The Eye Doctors, Paelon Memorial Clinic, Pathcare and the Center for Advanced Specialty Surgery, CASS.
Additional thanks should also go to the donors and supporters that rose up to EDWIIN’s noble call to stand with them in helping to provide succour for some of the nation’s physically challenged women.
Prominent among these large-hearted institutions and citizens are Fidelity Bank Plc, Dream Desserts, Ferina Magazine, Brilliant Blings, Bulk Strategic Results Limited, Effervescent Fabrics, Hydrocarbon Advisors, Amira Obi-Okoye and Uche Nwafor.
In all, the day ended quite well with each woman-beneficiary going home with a beautiful lace fabric. In ess than a year in its life span, EDWIIN is indeed walking the talk and blazing the trail with a lot of firsts and innovative engineering in contemporary NGO work.
The next event in the series, the FRIENDS OF EDWIIN OUTREACH (FRED), is scheduled to hold in May, 2018.
Awesome – well done Uri!
