As had been widely expected, the Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal has sacked Nyesom Wike as the Governor of Rivers State.
The tribunal, which had experienced a very tough time and had to be relocated to the Federal Capital, Abuja to continue its sitting, delivered its ruling on Saturday.
Among other weighty proclamations, it also ordered that a fresh governorship election be conducted in the state.
The petition challenging the election of Mr. Wike as Rivers State Governor had been filed by Dakuku Peterside, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the ill-fated election.
It will be recalled tat the Rivers governorship election had been widely criticised by local and international observers as having witnessed the largest amount of violence both in its build-up and after the elections.
Meanwhile, a stormy session is expected at the Senate on Tuesday as the upper Chamber would be putting finishing touches to the screening and confirmation of the immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.
Meanwhile, there are already feelers that the duo of Wike and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party are already engaged in consultations, preparatory to appealing the judgement of the tribunal.
